All eyes were on Sacramento this week as California lawmakers held two of the most consequential committee votes of the session on Thursday. By the end of the week 24 AI-related bills moved forward toward floor votes while two bills were given final approval.

Investigative journalists at Indicator, working with the nonprofit WITNESS, analyzed 13 AI companies affected by the new California AI disclosure law. Of those 13, only seven had a dedicated detection tool available. That means nearly half of the AI companies affected by the new law are already out of compliance.
